Mn2AlC is a member of vdW MAX layered material system. Similar to graphite and MoS2, the MAX phases are layered and have the general formula: Mn+1AXn, (MAX) where n = 1 to 3, M is an early transition metal, A is an non-metal elements and X is either carbon and/or nitrogen. In this particular case, M=Mn, A=Al, and X=C with n=1.
World's first electronic and optical grade commercial layered MAXene phase Mn2AlC materials: Mn2AlC MAX phase has been synthesized at our facilities using large reactor chemical vapor deposition to yield World's highest purity (99.999% or higher guaranteed) and layered MAX phases. The MAX phases are electrically and thermally conductive due to their metallic-like nature of bonding. They are excellent for research quality materials as 2D metals, battery applications, supermetallicity, thermal physics , or as precursors for MXene production. Mn2AlC product consists of microsized layered crystals that measure from 1 microns to 100 microns in size (see SEM images below). Each order contains 1000 mg of high purity and layered Mn2AlC MAXenes sealed under inert Ar gas. The product has been perfected in the last years to reach guaranteed 2:1:1 Mn:Al:C ratios and exhibit an extraordinary environmental stability. Titanium Carbide Ti2C is a novel type of 2D material known as a MXene, a compound composed of layered nitrides, carbides, or carbonitrides of transition metals. Predominantly single phase (92–94 vol.%), fully dense samples of Hf2SnC, Zr2SnC, Nb2SnC, Ti2SnC, Hf2PbC and Zr2PbC were fabricated by reactively HIPing the stoichiometric mixture of the corresponding elemental powders in the 1200–1325°C temperature range for 4–48 h. The latter two, fabricated here for the first time, required a further anneal of 48–96 h to increase the volume fraction of ternary phases. Hf2PbC and Zr2PbC are unstable in ambient atmospheres at room temperature. As a family these compounds are good electrical conductors; the lowest and highest values of the electrical conductivities were, respectively, 2.2×106 (Ω.m)−1 for Hf2SnC and 13.4×106 (Ω.m)−1 for Hf2PbC. The Vickers hardness values range from 3 to 4 GPa. All compounds are readily machinable. The Young's moduli of Zr2SnC, Nb2SnC and Hf2SnC are, respectively, 178, 216 and 237 GPa. The thermal coefficients of expansion, TCE's, of the ternaries scale with those of the corresponding binaries, and are relatively low for such readily machinable solids. The lowest TCE belonged to Nb2SnC [(7.8±0.2)×10−6 K−1], and the highest to Ti2SnC [(10±0.2)×10−6 K−1]. The TCE's of Hf and Zr containing ternaries cluster around (8.2±0.2)×10−6 K−1. All the synthesized ternary carbides were found to dissociate into the transition metal carbide

We report on first principles prediction and subsequent synthesis of Mn2GaC, a new member of the inherently nanolaminated Mn+1AXn (MAX) phase family. This phase, the first to include Mn as the sole M element, was synthesized as a heteroepitaxial thin film. The material was theoretically predicted to display magnetic ordering with ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic configurations degenerate in energy within the computational accuracy. Vibrating sample magnetometer measurements show FM ordering with a saturation moment of ms=0.29 μB per Mn atom and remanent moment of mr=0.15 μB per Mn atom for temperatures≤230 K.

Selenium is a chemical element with the symbol Se and atomic number 34. Vanadium Aluminum Carbide (V4AlC3) belongs to the family of Mn+1AXn (MAX) phases with more than 80 members. These are layered, machinable, nanolaminated ternary carbides, nitrides and borides, where M is an early transition metal, A is an A-group element, mainly from groups 13–16 and X is C or N or B. These compounds possess hexagonal crystal structure with space group P63/mmc (space group number: 194), where M atoms are in a near closed packed arrangement and are intercalated with A-group atomic layers, with the X-atoms residing in the octahedral sites between the M layers. These atomic arrangements give the MAX phases an effective laminated layered structure that leads to the naming of the MAX phase as nanolaminates. MAX phases possess a unique combination of properties, both metallic and ceramic in nature due to the layered structure. Metallic properties can include good thermal and electrical conductivities, good thermal shock resistance, excellent damage tolerance, and good machinability. Ceramic properties include low density, elastic rigidity, oxidation and creep resistance, and the ability to maintain the strength up to very high temperatures.
V4AlC3 is an emerging vanadium-based MAX material that possesses a thicker V4C3 component and higher corrosion resistance than that of the V2AlC MAX material. It is a precursor of V2O5/C composite, which is a potential cathode material for Zn-ion batteries (AZIBs). It is also an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for solvent-free aerobic oxidation of toluene to benzaldehyde.
